Licensing My Artwork

Licensing My Artwork

After some consideration, I have decided to try and get my artwork licensed for products to be sold to the public. I have thought long and hard about this and have decided that it is probably a good idea. Since the economy is so bad, especially in New york City where I live, so many galleries have been closing and not that many people are purchasing fine art. Sales have definitely been slow and us artists need to venture out and do knew things. I have been mainly showing in small galleries and I sell directly from my Web site www.juliafinucane.webs.com, but I need to do more.

I know that some fine artists feel as if licensing your art for commercial products means that the artist is selling out, but I do not feel that way. I think that any way an artist can get their art out there, even if it’s for commercial use, is a good way for people to enjoy their art. Well now I need to search for companies to license with and see if they are even interested. I am new and learning, so much research will be needed. If anyone has done this, I would love to hear about your experience. Feel free to comment.
