Rumors have been spreading abut a Gossip Girl prequel for a few months now. First the idea was to have a spin off about Jenny Humphrey’s characters but those plans were shot down and fast. The new prequel idea that is going to be in the works and is no longer a rumor, is about Lily Rhodes who is known on gossip girl as Lillian van der Woodsen. The CW will air the first episode in place of a gossip girl episode on May 11 which will lay the foundation for the prequel that will start in the fall. The prequel will show the life of Lily as a “wild child teenager in Los Angeles in the 1980s” and how she grows up to the mother of Serena.
Executive producers, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage said that by putting the prequel in California and bringing in new actors, this would avoid ruining the current series of Gossip Girl which is in the second season. “We are inspired by the opportunity to tell overlapping stories and introduce characters that will appear in the past and the present — and hopefully enrich both shows,” they said.
